What Is the SAP KNMT Table?
SAP KNMT Table stores Customer-Material info records in the SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) module. It contains customer specific material information maintained for a particular customer, sales organization and distribution channel.
Different customers may use their own material numbers and descriptions for the same material maintained in the SAP system. The KNMT table helps to establish the relationship between customer’s material number and company’s internal material number maintained in SAP system.
When a sales order is created, SAP can check the customer-material information in KNMT to identify the internal SAP material based on the customer’s material number.
For Example:
Suppose customer ABC100 purchases a product from Sales Organization 1010 through the distribution channel 10.
The Organization maintains the following information
- Customer Number: ABC100
- Sales Organization: 1010
- Distribution Channel: 10
- SAP Material Number: MAT100
- Customer Material Number: C-5000
- Customer Material Description: Industrial Motor
In SAP, MAT100 is the company internal material number, while C-5000 is the customers material number
When the user creating the sales order using VA01, user enters the customer provided material number C-5000 (customer’s material number). Now SAP uses the customer material info record in KNMT to identify the corresponding internal material number MAT100.
