SAP Table TBSL

Posting Key

What Is the SAP TBSL Table?

SAP TBSL Table stores posting key related configuration settings in SAP Financial Accounting. A posting key is a two-digit key that controls how an accounting document line item is posted.

In SAP, the posting key determines posting rules such as account type, debit or credit posting, and other field controls used during accounting document entry.

Standard SAP system delivers various posting keys for account type: customer, vendor, Assets and G/L accounts. Some commonly used standard posting keys are:

  • 01 – Customer Debit
  • 11 – Customer Credit
  • 21 – Vendor Debit
  • 31 – Vendor Credit
  • 40 – G/L Account Debit
  • 50 – G/L Account Credit

For Example:

When a vendor invoice is posted using transaction code FB60, the accounting entries are:

Expense G/L Account  – Dr
Vendor A/ C                           – Cr

SAP uses the relevant posting keys to determine how each line should be posted.

  • Expense G/L Account > Posting Key 40 >> Debit
  • Vendor Account > Posting Key 31 >> Credit

The posting key configuration in TBSL determines the posting key 40 is used for G/L Account debit posting and posting key 31 is used for vendor credit posting
